Commemorating the release of the latest collaboration between Pharrell Williams and the LEGO Group, Hypebeast tapped Jean Jacques Ndjoli and Keith Herron to celebrate the journeys of those who use creativity to shoot for the stars.
During their Stargazers episodes, both Ndjoli and Herron expressed their personal relationship with LEGO® as well as opened up about their wildest aspirations. Following what Williams achieved with “Over the Moon” and how much of a ground-breaking moment it has been for the brand, we tasked the creatives to ideate their own LEGO set — translating their distinct aesthetics to the brick realm — asking them “If you had the opportunity, what would your own set look like?”
After receiving their initial sketches, we partnered them up with the brand’s official set builder to bring their unique concept to life. From amusement parks to aspirational workspaces, here’s what the creatives built.
For Ndjoli, he opted to recreate a theme park in his lens. Translating his vibrant color palette as well as his playful aura, the range of rides brought his vibe to the LEGO Group world. “My aesthetic is brought through the forms and the essence of the set being a theme park,” he tells Hypebeast. “It brings joy to have it pictured as a real-life set.”
Having previously expressed his dream of wanting to create a whole city, this project, therefore, is the next best thing. “The thought process was to draw my future life in LEGO before bringing it to life,” he explains. Incorporating his journey and outlook, the set brings forth a fresh perspective for the creative, inspiring him to actualize his ideas into a tangible product. Citing the head looking over the park as his favorite feature where “the set represents me staring at the accomplishment of my future creation, I will one day create an amusement park.”
For Herron, his label Advisry was launched to complement a multifaceted lifestyle, and his unique set champions this philosophy.
Designing a full workspace that incorporates the brand’s signature colorways, it’s split into four sections: a personal studio; screening room; music studio; and showroom — encompassing not only his daily process but also seeks inspiration from Williams’ career path. “I created my dream office space where I wouldn’t mind spending all my time,” he explains. “The set represents Advisry’s multidisciplinary nature. I don’t make music, but I still engage with the medium daily, and I want Advisry to be a home for creativity through music and film just as much as it is for my own work.”
Bringing the concept to life “makes it feel a little more real” and while all the rooms have their own connection to Herron, his favorite is the showroom where his ideas culminate. “It’s a presentation of my creative ideas above all,” he says. “The rest of the rooms serve a craft or inspirational function, but this room is where my ideas live.”
