Bianca Saunders Explores Masculinity & Intimacy in FW19 Lookbook
The London-born designer showcases her “Unravelling” pieces.
Bianca Saunders has released the lookbook for her Fall/Winter 2019 collection showcased at the British designer’s London Fashion Week Men’s FW19 show. Titled “Unravelling,” Saunders continues to explore themes surrounding the black male identity, focusing on the intimacy of a man’s bedroom.
In a collection that aims to deliver an “examination of feeling comfortable in your own space,” Saunders captures a diverse range of young men wearing stand out pieces such as high-waisted, high-shine brown leather trousers, a shirring-crinkled shirt and a belted matte-black cotton trench coat. Other notable looks from the FW19 collection include a romper-suit-styled two-piece in soft checkered cotton and, lastly, a mesh dress.
The unravelling goes deeper than an interpretive concept, as Saunders’ collection utilizes twisted seams, shirring elasticated techniques and creasing to create a bounce-back effect and mesh detailing within her pieces. Reinterpreting shirts, sweaters and denim, the London-born designer explores masculinity with a modern take on wardrobe staples, using fabrics such as leather and nylon and playing with traditional silhouettes.
